From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences growing in power within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of heroes who will split off from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.
What Defines the Warrior Group
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.
At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might look unsuited, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the party understands precisely where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.
The traitor then settled his debts and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each character has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, desires retribution.
- The adventurer has experience in Timmony and advises that it is a hostile place.
- The warrior and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their position as key figures in the influential clan could enable the party enter locations they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The cleric defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This results in them few options but to travel to the northern region in search of Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Explorers and Schemers tables.
Fans can look forward to learning which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
