The star has donated the entirety of his £25,000 honor winnings to the trust for venues, which works to protect the Britain's small live music spots.

The star was given the cheque on 16 October as his latest record his work was declared the top album of the previous year.

The musician has decided to donate the funds to the trust, in appreciation of the vital role local spots fulfilled in his initial steps.

"I personally couldn't be pursuing my current career if it hadn't been for all the gigs I played around the area, and beyond, when I was just getting going," remarked Fender. "These venues are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, at least 150 of these locations have ceased operations – roughly one-sixth of the entire UK sector.

Recently, well-known musicians like the band Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the MVT in its initiatives to support the industry, by adding a small levy to their admission fees, which goes to help local stages.

Sam Fender also participated, raising over £100k on his 2024 arena tour to support thirty-eight local spots across the UK.

The donation supported spaces that were confronting imminent closure due to issues arising from water damage, fires and family tragedies, as well as regulatory hurdles, conflicts and sound issues.

Some locations were granted monetary aid in upgrading amenities and sound and lighting systems that directly benefitted performers and concertgoers.

"The notion that funds from performances in large arenas backs the local stages, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just common sense," the star has stated.

In the past week, the MVT announced it had rescued a couple of grassroots venues in south-east England, by placing them under community ownership.

One venue in that area and The Croft in the city were acquired under the public acquisition initiative, which is funded by a national body and supporters who purchase "shares" in the venues.
