A person who laced sweets with sedative and distributed them to youngsters at a summer program in the region has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two boys aged nine and ten years old.

The defendant was arrested after eight youngsters and an older person became sick at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The 76-year-old, from that region, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the judicial center on the end of the week.

However, he disputed a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.

The accused was held in detention before a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

The prosecutor, presenting evidence, outlined Ruben's offending to the court.

She explained his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer camp which he managed.

The defendant played a "candy game" with the minors, the prosecutor said, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and tell them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".

She told the court Ruben had conducted this practice with the boys "for many years", and minors had previously become sick the following morning.

She stated the defendant had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had concerns in summer 2025.

Mrs Prior KC added: "Recently" his stepson had worries about what was going on, for good reason.

"They chose" to investigate in the individual's items."

The legal counsel said materials including infant oil, petroleum jelly and injection devices were found, and his family member notified the law enforcement about his worries.

She stated Ruben continued to play the "treat game" with six boys that evening - that Saturday - and they were all sick the following morning.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that point," she continued.

The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.

The legal representative explained the children were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the stepson notified the authorities once more.

She stated the man then conducted the "candy game" in a area of five youngsters.
